Hi, I'm Jenna, also known as Take Root's social media manager! When I was told we were starting a blog grounded in Take Root's food-centric mission, I knew it would be a stretch ... .
Coming from St. Louis, I didn't have access to farm-fresh food every day, and getting produce anywhere other than the grocery store was a wild concept, other than the rare cartoon of eggs my grandpa would bring back from the golf course thank to his buddies. My grandparents would take me to farmer's markets here and there when I was growing up, but I didn't realize their true beauty until I moved to Kirksville and got to experience summer market Saturdays on the square - but I'll talk more about the Kirksville's Farmer's Market later.
Take Root's mission is "To alleviate hunger and promote health by offering nourishing, high quality, local food on a pay-what-you-can basis." Through this blog our Executive Director Will & I will unpack this mission statement. We'll talk about broadly about the food system - how our mission relates to the way we eat and what a community based food system could look like. And get into specifics as well, with pieces on our vendors, shopping local, growing and preparing good food.
I'm excited to share the fun things I learn about sustainability, eating with the seasons, and being the best human I can be to the earth. So if you're into that, stick around, and if you're not, maybe read one more post to see if I can change your mind!
